NEW CASTLE — A man charged with drunk driving in New Wilmington was the driver in a 2009 double-fatality crash.
New Wilmington police said they learned Austin J. Ewers, 20, has a record that includes homicide by vehicle after they arrested him in the borough Nov. 24. He was observed driving on the campus of Westminster College in the early morning hours.
Police said Ewers was given a blood alcohol test and the results indicated a level of 0.142, nearly twice the legal limit of 0.08 percent.
During their investigation, police said, they learned that Ewers, whose last known address was George Junior Republic in Grove City, has a suspended license. They later learned he had been adjudicated in Westminster Collegejuvenile court for a drunk driving crash that killed two people and injured four others.
Police indicated they plan to file charges against the woman who owns the vehicle Ewers was operating, alleging she knew he was intoxicated and has no license. ….MORE
