2014-02-19 —- A Tulsa man was taken into custody Monday on a manslaughter charge in connection with a fatal auto-pedestrian crash late last year.
The Tulsa County District Attorney’s Office charged Shalake Derhone Reed, 44, on Wednesday after receiving evidence that he was driving under the influence when his pickup hit Eric Rollerson, 74, in the 5400 block of North Lewis Avenue on Dec. 29, according to court filings.
After hitting Rollerson, the 1999 Chevrolet pickup slammed into a utility pole, police said. Rollerson was pronounced dead that evening.
A 1957 alumnus of Booker T. Washington High School, Rollerson ran for mayor of Tulsa twice in the 1980s, marking the first time an African-American had run for the position, his family previously told the Tulsa World.
