2014-03-02 —Thomas Stanley has seen a lot of things, but he had never seen someone die before.
In an instant, the motorcycle that moments before was driving in a lane next to Stanley was up in the air.
The bike was mangled after hitting the back end of an SUV turning left at an intersection. Everything — the rider, the bike, even his helmet — went flying in different directions.
Stanley, a 47-year-old retiree who works as a handyman, came to a stop. He figured the SUV involved in the crash would, too. When he saw it didn’t, he crossed three lanes of traffic. He was determined to stop that vehicle. He couldn’t get the crash image out of his head.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office says Stanley helped authorities track down Nadia Verdoni, 42, the suspected hit-and-run driver in the crash that killed Benjamin Pirofsky, 30, of Coral Springs.
