Benjamin H Hampton charged with DUI felony death of Davon Bryant

COLUMBIA, SC — Columbia Police have arrested a man accused of driving drunk and causing an accident, which resulted in the death of one person.
Benjamin H. Hampton, 20, has been charged with felony DUI with death.
Police said Hampton is accused of being under the influence of alcohol while driving a Chevy Impala in the 500 block of Veterans Road just before 4 a.m. Friday morning.
Interim Chief Ruben Santiago said Hampton was allegedly driving extremely fast, which caused him to leave the road and strike a tree.
The impact occured on the passenger side of the vehicle.
