Suspect and Victim Identified Following Saturday Night’s DUI Crash That Left one Man Dead

2014-03-10— From San Leandro Police in San Leandro, Calif.: On Saturday night at 11:20 P.M., San Leandro Police Officers responded to a vehicle collision at the intersection of Washington Ave. and Castro St., involving an Acura Integra and a Chevy Camaro.  The passenger of the Acura was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
The Alameda County Coroner’s Bureau has identified the Acura’s passenger as 30 year-old Juan Jesus Ornelas Flores of Oakland, CA.
The driver of the Acura has been identified as 24 year old Sergio Hernandez Flores of Oakland, CA.  Flores is currently in police custody at a local hospital, where he is being treated for injuries sustained in the collision.  It is reported that the men are cousins.
The driver and only occupant of the Chevy Camaro has been identified as a 44 year-old male, who resides in San Lorenzo.  He was not injured in the collision.
Police are still investigating the cause of the collision, and believe that excessive speed and excessive alcohol consumption by the driver of the Acura are to blame.
The Alameda County Coroner’s Bureau will perform an autopsy of Juan Jesus Ornelas Flores this coming week.
Sergio Flores will remain in police custody at the hospital, until released.  He will then be transported to the Santa Rita Jail in Dublin, where he will be held until his arraignment in the Hayward Superior Court, which should be scheduled sometime this coming week.
