LAS VEGAS (01/08/2015) – A driver hospitalized after slamming into a sport-utility vehicle in northwest Las Vegas Valley on Christmas Eve will face a count of driving under the influence causing death, according to police.
Las Vegas Metro police said Ray Diokno, 25, will also face reckless driving charges in the deadly Dec. 24 crash at the intersection of Cheyenne Avenue and Hualapai Way. Diokno was booked in absentia while being treated at the hospital.
According to police, Diokno, who was driving a BMW 300i, tested over the legal limit after a blood draw was examined.
The BMW ran a red light while traveling westbound at Cheyenne at about 11:30 p.m. Citing evidence, police said the sedan slammed into a GMC-model vehicle that was turning left from southbound Hualapai to eastbound Cheyenne.
The collision caused the GMC to rollover at the intersection.

Las Vegas Police report that on December 24, 2014 at approximately 11:36 p.m., a fatal injury Auto versus Auto traffic collision occurred on Cheyenne Avenue at the intersection with Hualapai Way.
Evidence at the scene and witness statements indicated a 2002 BMW 300i was traveling westbound on Cheyenne Avenue at a high rate of speed.
The 2011 GMC Terrain was turning left from southbound Hualapai Way to eastbound Cheyenne Avenue. Witness statements indicated the BMW failed to stop for the solid red traffic signal and impacted the GMC. The force of the impact from the BMW caused the GMC to roll over. Two of the occupants of GMC were pronounced dead at the scene by responding medical personnel. The remaining occupants of the GMC and BMW were transported to UMC Trauma with minor to serious injuries.
The driver of the BMW was suspected of being under the influence of alcohol. This was the 90th and 91st traffic related fatalities in the LVMPD’s jurisdiction for 2014. The collision remains under investigation by the LVMPD Accident Investigation Section.
