WILLIAMSTOWN — A Rhode Island man has been charged with vehicular homicide by negligent operation while under the influence of alcohol following Sunday’s deadly crash in Williamstown.
William Lowe, 34, was arrested on Wednesday by Williamstown police at Berkshire Medical Center and transported to Central Berkshire District Court in Pittsfield. He is being held without bail at Berkshire County Jail and House of Correction. He will be arraigned on Friday at Northern Berkshire District Court, according to Williamstown Police Sgt. Scott McGowan.
Lowe allegedly had an open container of alcohol and was speeding in his Ford Explorer on Sunday morning on Cold Spring Road when he crossed the center line at about 10:30, and struck a Hyundai Elantra driven by Lawrence George, 64, of Pownal, Vt.
