Killer Collins celebrated after killing two women in blazing inferno

From KOKH

A California man accused of killing two women while driving under the influence celebrated after the crash, a police report says.According to Fox 25 affiliate KBAK, 29-year-old Dontrell Collins was arrested last month on DUI charges.According to police, he rear-ended a car that then burst into flames, killing 27-year-old Jacklyn Kvasnicka and 22-year-old Pavinder Claire.

Now, a newly released police report shows that he told police he may have been driving faster than 90 mph in a 50 mph zone.

Witnesses said Collins exited his vehicle without injuries and walked up to the car on fire, cheering and yelling profanities, as if celebrating the deaths of the women.

“Oh my God, I (expletive) killed them!” said Collins, according to one witness.

Another person standing nearby told police Collins was yelling “woo” and clapping his hands, almost in a proud manner.

Collins told police he had one to three beers two hours before the crash.

He faces two felony counts of second-degree murder and charges including reckless driving.

TROOPER STRUCK DURING VEHICLE SEARCH FURTHER DEMONSTRATING IMPORTANCE OF THE MOVE OVER LAW

(GREENBELT, MD) –A Maryland State Trooper is recovering from injuries sustained after he was struck early this morning while searching a vehicle, on the shoulder of the road, in Prince George’s County, Maryland

The trooper is identified as Corporal Brian Hirsch, 30, an 11 year veteran currently assigned to the College Park Barrack. Corporal Hirsch was transported by Prince George’s County emergency medical personnel to Prince George’s County Hospital due to injuries sustained when struck.

The driver of the 2005 Chevrolet Equinox is identified as Franklin Hernandez, 42 of the 5300 block of Greenway Drive, Hyattsville, Maryland. Hernandez failed to stop after the collision and refused medical treatment. He was charged on traffic citation with violations of the move over law as well as driving under the influence, failing to stop after a collision involving injury, and negligent driving.

The preliminary investigation indicates that just after 2:00 a.m., Cpl. Hirsch along with another trooper were conducting a vehicle search on I-495 in the area of the Greenbelt Metro Station. Both Maryland State Police patrol units were stopped with their emergency equipment activated on the right road shoulder. While conducting a search, a 2005 Chevrolet failed to obey the move over law, and struck Cpl. Hirsch while standing on the right shoulder. The vehicle was stopped a short distance later.

Once the driver of the Chevrolet was identified, Hernandez demonstrated signs indicating he may have been operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol. Further investigation was conducted and he was arrested for DUI.

This incident reinforces the importance on the move over law and the need for motorists to comply. The law is intended to provide an extra barrier of safety for police, fire and emergency rescue personnel, and on October 1, 2014, tow truck drivers. Motorists are required when approaching an emergency vehicle or a tow truck from the rear with its lights activated, to change into an available lane not next to the emergency vehicle or tow truck, when safe to do so. If there is no lane available, the motorists must slow down to a reasonable and prudent speed as they pass the emergency scene.

(September 22, 2014)-  The Florida Highway Patrol has concluded its investigation into a crash involving an intoxicated pedestrian and an off-duty Cape Coral Police Officer late Thursday night.  The investigation revealed that the intoxicated pedestrian failed to yield to traffic and was cited by the Florida Highway Patrol.  A synopsis of the case is below:

DATE: September 18, 2013
TIME: 9:01 pm
CASE #: FHP case report #83839556 (CCPD IR# 2014-0146802)
LOCATION: 200 block NE Pine Island Road

VEHICLE 1: 2004 Chevy Impala (CCPD unmarked patrol vehicle).
DRIVER 1: Brice E. Bearman, W/M, 1100 Cultural Park Boulevard, Cape Coral, Florida 33990.
DRIVER 1 INJURIES: Bearman suffered no injuries in the traffic crash.

PEDESTRIAN: John Richard Wrensch, Jr, W/M, 8-31-62, (homeless, lives in woods 200 NE Pine Island Road).
PEDESTRIAN INJURIES: Wrensch suffered serious injuries in the traffic crash.

SYNOPSIS:

Bearman was driving east on Pine Island Road in the inside lane approaching the 200 block in his assigned patrol vehicle.  According to Bearman, an SUV was traveling in the outside lane ahead of him and immediately swerved to the right as to miss something in the roadway.  At the same time, Bearman saw a dark figure (Pedestrian) in the roadway in his lane of travel.  Bearman swerved to the left to avoid the Pedestrian.  The passenger side of Vehicle 1 (near the back side of the front tire) struck the Pedestrian, as did the passenger side rearview mirror.  Bearman came to final rest in the grassy median.  The Pedestrian came to rest in the roadway.

According to a witness, she was the SUV in front of Bearman and swerved to the right to avoid the Pedestrian.  The witness stated that there was no way that Vehicle 1 could have avoided the Pedestrian.  There were no street lights in the area, there was no crosswalk, and the Pedestrian was wearing a dark shirt, dark shorts, and a dark hat.

Due to injuries suffered by the Pedestrian, he was trauma alerted to Lee Memorial Hospital for medical attention.  Traffic Homicide Investigator Officer Satterlee, Forensics Buckner, and FHP Trooper D. Garcia #3333 responded.  FHP Trooper D. Garcia completed the investigation finding the Pedestrian at fault in the traffic crash for failure to yield the right-of-way to traffic when not crossing at a crosswalk.

It is determined that there is no lighting in this portion of the roadway and the Pedestrian was crossing approximately 450 East of the intersection of Santa Barbara Boulevard, crossing North, to get to the wooded area where he lives.  Alcohol and/or Drugs were a factor in this crash.

The Pedestrian was issued a citation for the violation by FHP Trooper D. Garcia.

Lewes Man Charged with 5th Offense DUI after Attempting to Flee from Troopers

Dover, DEL (Sept. 24, 2014) – Delaware State Troopers report that they have arrested a 34-year-old Lewes man for his fifth offense DUI after he attempted to flee from a traffic stop.

The incident occurred at approximately 2:10 p.m. Tuesday September 23, 2014 when an anonymous call to the Kent County Emergency Operations Center (9-1-1) reported a possible drunk driver in the area of Royal Grant Development.  Troopers responded to the area of Royal Grant Way and located a black BMW parked in the roadway with a male subject slumped over the wheel as if he was asleep.

Police say that the driver awoke when a trooper opened the door to the car to check on his well-being and he immediately accelerated away in the vehicle at a high rate of speed.  Troopers began pursuing the BMW, with emergency equipment activated, and observed it turn onto Crown Circle where it backed into a private driveway and came to a stop.  Troopers then began issuing verbal commands to the operator to shut the vehicle off, but he again accelerated forward almost striking a trooper standing outside his patrol vehicle before the BMW struck the front of a fully marked police car and continued back onto Crown Circle.

The suspect then drove southbound before coming to a stop a few houses down and pulled into another private driveway where he exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot.  Troopers initiated a foot pursuit and deployed a divisionally issued Taser (Electronic Control Device) taking him into custody without further incident.

Steven M. Williams, 34, of Lewes, was transported back to Troop 3 where a DUI investigation ensued and he was subsequently charged with his 5th Offense Driving Under the Influence (previous convictions of   08/31/01, 10/28/01, 01/16/04, and 12/12/10), Resisting Arrest with Force, two counts of Disregarding a Police Officer’s Signal, Reckless Endangering 2nd, two counts of Criminal Mischief, and Reckless Driving.  He was arraigned at JP2 and committed to James T. Alfredo Alaniz charged with selling beer to teens in fatal crash NM

FROM KVIA

10/16/2014 — UPDATE: A man from Hatch, New Mexico was arrested for selling beer to the teens involved in a deadly wreck Tuesday night.

Dona Ana County Sheriff’s investigators charged Alfredo Alaniz, 65, with unlawful sale of alcoholic beverages, selling or giving alcohol to a minor and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The charges are all fourth-degree felonies.

Alaniz was arrested Wednesday night at his home on the 600 block of Hayes Street in Hatch.

Investigators said a 13-year-old boy involved in the crash bought about eight cans of Budweiser beer for $10 from Alaniz’s makeshift store that he runs out of his home.

Sonia Rodriguez, 16, was killed after she was ejected from the truck the teens were riding in.

Elida Garcia, 32, who was in the second car involved, was also killed.

PREVIOUS STORY:

The teen driver of a pickup truck that collided head-on with another vehicle in Hatch Tuesday night has been charged with two counts of vehicular homicide.

Dona Ana County Sheriff’s deputies say she also could be charged with DWI.

Sheriff’s deputies were sent to a traffic collision around 7 p.m. near the intersection of Canal Road and Castaneda Road.

They found a 2003 GMC truck, reportedly driven by 16-year-old Vanessa Rodriguez, and a 2002 Hyundai Sonata driven by 32-year-old Elida Garcia.

Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene and a passenger in her vehicle, 50-year-old Maria Granados, was transported to an El Paso hospital for treatment of her injuries.

Deputies say there were two passengers in Rodriguez’s truck, 16-year-old Sonia Rodriguez and a 13-year-old boy. Sonia Rodriguez, no relation to the driver, was killed after being partially ejected from the truck after it rolled on impact with the Hyundai.

Sheriff’s officials are not releasing the 13-year-old’s name as a courtesy to his relatives.

Sheriff’s officials say that an initial investigation revealed the teens in the pickup truck had been drinking beer earlier in the evening. Vanessa Rodriguez told investigators could not remember where the alcohol came from.

Vanessa Rodriguez told deputies she and Sonia had started drinking after school and later picked up the 13-year-old boy, who was Sonia’s ….MORE

From The Pantagraph:

BLOOMINGTON — The parents of Michael Collins delivered a message Thursday to the driver who was sentenced to 14 years in prison for killing their son in March in an alcohol-related car crash.

“Long after the sentence imposed is over, we will still be serving ours,” Kelly Collins told Jamie Webb, 37, of Bloomington, who was sentenced for aggravated driving under the influence. Webb’s car was traveling over 130 mph when it slammed into the car in which Collins was a passenger at the intersection of Main and Empire streets in Bloomington, according to police.

Why We’re Here: Michael Collins
By MADD | September 2, 2014 | Filed in: Victim Stories

On March 28, 2014, 22-year-old Michael Collins spent the evening out with friends at a spring formal near campus – he was just weeks away from graduating with a degree in exercise science from Illinois State University.

In the early hours of March 29th, Michael and his friends were picked up by a designated driver and were on their way home, when a drunk driver ran a red light and struck the vehicle Michael was riding in. Michael sustained severe head trauma and was rushed into emergency brain surgery. After four days of fighting for his life, Michael succumbed to his injuries on April 2nd.

The drunk driver had a BAC of 0.1777 percent – more than twice the legal limit. She recently pled guilty to two counts of aggravated driving under the influence.

Michael was an active member of the Illinois State community and is remembered as a bright and witty friend by those who knew him. He was a natural leader with a propensity for doing the right thing. Michael also assisted his father, Jim, in coaching baseball at University High School.
Although his parents were not aware, Michael had signed up to be an organ donor and his organs and tissue went on to help as many as 200 people.

This past June, Michael’s friends and family formed at team at a Walk Like MADD event in Homer Glen, Illinois.  The team called #MCstrong raised more than $4,500 for MADD Illinois.

Spokane – Troopers and Detectives from the Washington State Patrol (WSP) following up on a tip yesterday afternoon located the vehicle that is suspected of striking Joshua Lee, sometime yesterday morning on State Route 2 just north of Nevada Street, in Spokane County.

Investigators were able to locate a 1988 Chevrolet Pickup that had damage and missing parts consistent with evidence that was obtained by investigators, which led WSP investigators to question and eventually arrest 35 year old Orlan W. Knuth. Knuth was booked into the Spokane County Jail for Hit and Run Fatal and Vehicular Homicide.

Knuth, a friend/neighbor of Lee admitted that the two were together the night of collision and had been drinking beer at a local bar. Sometime during the night Knuth and Lee became separated after getting into a verbal argument. Knuth told investigators that he didn’t remember much about the evening but did remember hitting something while driving home but thought it was a guardrail or post.
