Korina Machuca, 21, spent three hours in jail before bonding out after she allegedly hit and killed a bicyclist in Fresno County, deputies say. CHP says it is believed she was driving under the influence of weed at the time of the deadly crash.
The Fresno Bee reported: A Fresno woman was arrested on DUI charges late Tuesday night after a bicyclist was struck and killed just south of Fresno.
The driver in a deadly accident Tuesday night is out on bail. California Highway Patrol said Korina Machuca was driving on Cherry Avenue in Fresno County when she hit a bicyclist. They add she was under the influence of marijuana.
Machuca swerved, hitting a nearby fence and spinning out off the road. Officers say she works near the area and was on her lunch break when the collision occurred.
“The officers noticed the odor of marijuana in the vehicle. She has the same odor on her person and signs of intoxication,” said CHP Sgt. Leonard Sherman.
Drug recognition experts made the determination that she was possibly under the influence of marijuana. The street was poorly lit.
Officers say the cyclist was wearing dark clothing and he may have also been homeless. He died on impact.

Troopers Arrest Man for OUI Drugs, Trafficking, and Distribution of Narcotics

Massachusetts State Police report that shortly after 10 p.m. Oct. 29, 2019, Trooper Nikos Retzos, assigned to State Police-Boston, was on patrol in Boston when he observed a white sedan stopped on the Gilmore Bridge in front of Bunker Hill Community College.
When PERIEL turned to look at the Trooper Retzos he observed PERIEL smoking what he believed to be a marijuana joint.
Trooper Retzos approached the vehicle to ask the operator, later identified as KEVIN PERIEL, 23, of Cambridge if he needed assistance. When PERIEL turned to look at the Trooper Retzos he observed PERIEL smoking what he believed to be a marijuana joint. Trooper Retzos also detected a very strong odor of freshly burnt marijuana. While speaking to PERIEL, Trooper Retzos observed him showing signs of being impaired and asked him to step out of the vehicle.
While PERIEL stepped out of the vehicle Trooper Retzos continued to make observations finally forming the opinion that PERIEL was operating his vehicle under the influence of marijuana. PERIEL was placed under arrest and escorted to the rear of Trooper Retzos’ cruiser.
Upon securing PERIEL, Trooper Retzos returned to the vehicle to conduct an inventory prior to it being towed from the scene. During the inventory Trooper Retzos located two clear plastic bags, one of which contained multiple individually wrapped smaller baggies of a substance believed to be heroin. The other bag contained a large amount of a substance believed to be crack cocaine. Both bags had a combined weight of 93 grams. While on the scene it was also discovered that PERIEL’s driver’s license was suspended.
PERIEL was transported to the Boston Barracks where he was booked. PERIEL was ordered to be held without bail pending his arraignment today at Charlestown District Court on the following charges:
Trafficking in Heroin;
Possession of a Class A Drug with Intent to Distribute;
Possession of a Class B Drug with Intent to Distribute;
Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License; and
Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of an Intoxicating Drug.

Johns Island, SC – According to Charleston County Sheriff J. Al Cannon Jr. on October 30, 2019, just after 2:00 a.m., Charleston County sheriff’s deputies responded to a single-car collision in the area of Brownswood Road near Killfish Road.
A vehicle was traveling westbound on Brownswood Road when it left the roadway, continued to a wood line and struck a tree. The passenger of the vehicle died. Deputies arrested the driver, Trevor Johnson, for Felony DUI. The Traffic Division is investigating the incident.

The Dover Police Department Spokesman M/Cpl Mark Hoffman report that the agency is investigating a single-car collision that resulted in the death of both occupants with alcohol believed to have been a major cause.
Alcohol and drugs are suspected to be a factor in the crash
At approximately 5:00 AM, a 2005 Toyota Prius was traveling northbound on N. DuPont Highway, approaching Leipsic Road. The vehicle was occupied by a 22-year-old male driver and a 28-year-old male passenger. The vehicle travelled off the east side of the roadway striking a utility pole. Both occupants were declared deceased on scene as a result of their injuries.
The accident caused the closure of both Northbound and southbound lanes until approximately 10:00 AM. Power was also lost in the area for several hours. The Dover Fire Department, Delaware Department of Transportation, and the City of Dover Electric assisted on the scene.
Alcohol and drugs are suspected to be a factor in the crash. The names and further details are being withheld pending next of kin notifications.

CROWN POINT- The Crown Point Coroner’s Office has confirmed the identity and notification of family has been made for the driver of the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette involved in the fatal crash on 10/10/2019. The driver has been identified as Suhail Saif Suhail Humaid Alder, 20, of Indianapolis, Indiana. The notification was particularly difficult as Alder’s family resides in United Arab Emirates. Adler was an exchange student attending IUPUI in Indianapolis.
CROWN POINT- This morning at 1:34 a.m., the Indiana State Police Regional Dispatch Center received a report of a wrong-way driver northbound on I-65 in the southbound lanes from the 247 mile marker. A 911 caller reported that a vehicle entered I-65 from the wrong ramp at U.S. 231. Approximately one minute later, OnStar reported a crash involving a 2015 Chevrolet Corvette. Trooper Dennis Griffin, along with the Crown Point Fire Department responded to the scene.
Preliminary investigation by Trooper Griffin shows that a silver 2015 Kia was northbound in the southbound lanes traveling in the center lane. The Kia struck a 2015 Chevrolet Corvette head-on. The Corvette was traveling southbound in the center lane. The inside lane (3rd lane) was closed at the time of the crash with orange traffic barrels for construction purposes. The Corvette was occupied by two males. The driver of the Corvette was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Lake County Coroner.
The driver of the Kia was transported to Franciscan Health in Crown Point. That driver has also died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. The passenger in the Corvette was transported to Franciscan Health for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Notification of the deceased has been made to one of the families. The driver of the Kia has been identified as Anna R. Warner, 21, from Beaverville, Illinois. Notification to the family of the Corvette’s driver is pending.
Alcohol is believed to be a factor in this crash.
All southbound lanes of I-65 were closed for approximately 7 hours for crash cleanup and reconstruction. All lanes reopened at 8:30 a.m.
Assisting at the scene: Crown Point Police and Fire, Indiana State Police Crash Reconstruction, Indiana State Highway Department, Lake County Coroner and Midnight Blue Towing.
Trooper Jason Phillips and his parents joined his colleagues at the Ohio Highway Patrol Wednesday to honor those who saved his life after a wrong-way driver crashed into his cruiser in June on Interstate 71 in Morrow County. Phillips, who is still recovering from major injuries, including brain trauma, said “home, therapy and God” are helping him recover.
The commanders at the Ohio State Highway Patrol Academy had already moved the furniture around to clear a space for Trooper Jason Phillips’ wheelchair.
Then word spread through the building: Better find a chair because Phillips had arrived and was determined to walk down that long academy hallway under his own power.
Wednesday was the day that Phillips and his parents would get a chance to show two important things. First, that no matter how much life has changed for them since a wrong-way driver nearly killed Phillips in a fiery on-duty crash on June 27, God is good and they remain hopeful in his recovery. Secondly, join in gratitude with hundreds of people gathered to honor all those who saved Phillips’ life after that crash on Interstate 71 in Morrow County.
Trooper/Motorist Sustain Injuries in Morrow County Crash
COLUMBUS – An Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper and another motorist were injured this morning in a two-vehicle crash that occurred on Interstate 71 near Mount Gilead.
At approximately 2:40 a.m., a trooper was dispatched to locate a possible impaired driver reported to be in the area of milepost 155 on Interstate 71. The trooper was struck head-on by another vehicle traveling south in the northbound lanes. As a result of the crash, both vehicles caught fire.
A Good Samaritan stopped to provide assistance after the crash and was also injured. The driver of the wrong-way vehicle was transported to a hospital in Mansfield. The trooper and Good Samaritan were flown to hospitals in Columbus.

Trooper Jason Phillips was flown to the OSU Medical Center and is in critical condition. The driver of the wrong-way vehicle, Michael Marchak Jr, 36, of Mansfield, is listed in critical condition at OhioHealth-MedCentral Hospital in Mansfield. Further investigation has determined the vehicle being driven by Marchak is the same vehicle Trooper Phillips was dispatched to investigate.

Trooper Jason Phillips remains in critical condition. He joined the Patrol as a member of the 164th Academy Class and earned his commission last November.

FROM MANSFIELD NEWS-JOURNAL: Marchak was indicted Aug. 22, 2019, in Morrow County on two counts of aggravated vehicular assault, felonies of the second degree; one count of receiving stolen property, a fourth-degree felony; operating a vehicle impaired, a first degree misdemeanor; and driving under suspension, also a first-degree misdemeanor, according to court records.
Morrow County Common Pleas Judge Robert C. Hickson Jr. set a $50,000 cash bond for Marchak, who was dressed in a green-and-white striped jail suit. Marchak is not allowed to post 10 percent of the bond, Morrow County Assistant Prosecutor Thomas Smith.
Smith said Marchak has a history of not showing up for court and an extensive arrest record dating back to 2002 and also has convictions in Florida. Court officials said at Friday’s arraignment that Marchak was driving a stolen vehicle when he hit the trooper’s cruiser in June.
Marchak was taken to the Richland County Jail on Thursday on an unrelated warrant out of Richland County when he appeared for a hearing on a fifth-degree felony-drug possession charge in Delaware County Common Pleas Court, his attorney William Leber told media following the court proceeding. Leber said Marchak is awaiting sentencing on that case.
Marchak tested positive for methamphetamine after the I-71 crash, a spokesman for the Ohio Highway Patrol said in July.
Leber said Marchak has prior charges which involved drugs and alcohol.
“Michael needs to get some rehabilitation of mental health, drug and alcohol and physical rehabilitation,” Leber said.
Hickson ordered complete drug and alcohol screenings for Marchak, stating he was concerned for public safety. MORE

On Sunday, November 24, 2019, around 5 pm, patrol officers were sent to the 200 block of South Kyrene Road for the report of a male slumped over the steering wheel of a running vehicle. When officers arrived on the scene they discovered the vehicle, a white 2017 Subaru, had been reported stolen earlier in the day with 25-year-old Cesar Limon asleep behind the steering wheel.

Limon, who was now awake, was ordered out of the vehicle. Instead, Limon placed the stolen car in drive, accelerated, and struck a parked car. This pinned an officer between the suspect vehicle’s open driver’s side door and the parked vehicle. A second officer attempted to grab Limon and remove him from the vehicle. This was unsuccessful and Limon accelerated a second time and struck a patrol vehicle.
As Limon attempted to shift into reverse, another officer was able to pull the keys out of the ignition. After a brief struggle, Limon was taken into custody. Limon was eventually transported to a local hospital after he went into shock from possible drug ingestion.
On Monday, November 25, 2019, around 8 pm, Limon was released from the hospital and booked into the Chandler/ Gilbert Unified Jail on multiple felony counts to include Theft of Means of Transportation, Resist Arrest, Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer, and Possession of Narcotic Drugs.
None of the police officers involved required hospitalization.

Traffic Section to Participate in Annual DUI Taskforce
The Chandler Police Department’s Traffic Section will participate in the annual East Valley Holiday DUI Task Force, which begins on Friday, November 29, 2019 and runs through New Year’s Eve. Each night of the Task Force, law enforcement agencies from the entire East Valley partner and patrol a designated geographical area with the mission to remove impaired drivers from the roadway. Funding is provided by the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety.
Each night a command post is established by the host jurisdiction for processing. The Chandler Police Department will host the East Valley DUI Task Force on two separate evenings; December 20, 2019 and December 26, 2019. On both nights the command post location will be at 250 E. Chicago Street.
Participating officers are specially trained in DUI detection methods, including the detection of drugs in the human body.
A high percentage of serious injury and fatal collisions involve impaired drivers. While DUI enforcement is traditionally associated with alcohol-impaired drivers, many of today’s impaired drivers are operating vehicles under the influence of prescription or illicit drugs. The tragic results of these collisions – aside from the significant personal and insurance costs related to property damage – include injury and death.

Bloomington Police are investigating a fatal crash involving a motor vehicle and a pedestrian. The incident occurred earlier tonight at approximately 7:30 pm.
Matthew Powell Knutson charged with DUI vehicular homicide
Police say that their preliminary investigation has determined that an adult male from Bloomington was crossing 98th Street near the intersection of Newton Avenue. A vehicle traveling eastbound on 98th Street struck the pedestrian and he died at the scene from those injuries. The victim was identified as Donald Johnson, 66, of Bloomington.
The driver, 26 years old from Burnsville, was arrested on Probable Cause DUI Criminal Vehicular Homicide and has a previous DWI conviction from 2014.
This crash is being investigated by the Bloomington Police Traffic Investigations Unit.

Suspect Arrested for Vehicular Homicide by Intoxication Following Investigation into September 2019 Fatal I-26 Crash
On September 1, 2019, at approximately 5:15 AM, Kingsport Police Patrol Officers responded to a motor vehicle collision on westbound Interstate 26 near mile-marker 6 (Rock Springs Road exit) in Kingsport. Based on the seriousness of the injuries to those involved, the K.P.D. Traffic Unit was called to the scene to investigate.
Their initial findings at the time were as follows: A dark blue 2008 Honda Accord 4-door sedan, driven and solely occupied by Margaret C. Buck of Johnson City, TN, was lawfully traveling westbound on I-26 near mile marker 6. Meanwhile, a black 2005 Mercedes C230 4-door sedan, driven and solely occupied by Zachary D. Hunt of Unicoi, TN, was unlawfully traveling the wrong way, eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-26, at the same location. The Mercedes struck the Honda in a head-on impact. Both drivers were transported to a local hospital for emergency medical treatment, Mr. Hunt with non-incapacitating injuries, but Ms. Buck with serious/incapacitating injuries. The westbound lanes of Interstate 26 were completely closed for over three hours to allow for the initial treatment and transportation of the injured, the thorough investigation of the crash, and the safe removal of any and all involved vehicles and related debris.The following day, on September 2, 2019 at approximately 9:00 PM, Margaret C. Buck succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash and died while still hospitalized. This has remained an active ongoing investigation by the K.P.D. Traffic Unit since the date of the crash. Early in the investigation, it was determined that Mr. Hunt entered Interstate 26 in his black Mercedes sedan going the wrong way (eastbound in the westbound lanes) via an I-26 exit (rather than entrance) ramp at the intersection of John B. Dennis Highway and Wilcox Drive.Based on officer observations, witness statements, and evidence found at the scene, Investigators had sufficient cause to believe that alcohol consumption by Mr. Hunt was a significant factor in the crash. A warrant was obtained for a blood sample which was in turn sent to the T.B.I Crime Lab for analysis. The results received on October 2, 2019, revealed that Mr. Hunt had a blood alcohol content (BAC) of over two and a half times the legal limit. On November 20, 2019, the facts of this case were presented to a Sullivan County Grand Jury which returned a true bill of indictment. On November 25, 2019, a capias/bench warrant was issued charging Mr. Hunt with the following: 1) Vehicle Homicide by Intoxication 2) Vehicular Homicide 3) Felony Reckless Endangerment 4) Driving Under the Influence 5) DUI with BAC over 0.08% 6) DUI with BAC over 0.20% Kingsport Police say that on the afternoon of December 4, 2019, Hunt turned himself in on the outstanding warrant, surrendering himself to authorities at the Kingsport Justice Center. He was processed in the Kingsport City Jail and then transferred to the Sullivan County Jail in Blountville where he will remain confined in lieu of a $25,000 bond.

Cheyanne was born on August 21, 1972, to Johnny Hoyt King Jr. and Vivian Ann Richards in Kingsport, TN.
Cheyanne is survived by her husband, Tim Buck; son, Brandon Buck; mother and step-dad, Ann and Wayne Richards, of Johnson City; father and step-mom, John and Catherine King, of Fairhope, Alabama; and brother, Bronson King, of Oahu, Hawaii.

Pennsylvania State Police report that Leon J. Charles, of Kingston, Pa., was charged Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2019, with causing a November crash that killed his passenger in Kline Township, Schuylkill County.
Leon John Charles, 49, also of Mount Rainier, Maryland, is charged with vehicular homicide, driving under the influence and other offenses in the Nov. 28 crash resulting in the Nov. 29 death of passenger James Muse, 48, of Glen Allen, Virginia, at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest.
At 6 a.m. Nov. 28, 2019, Police say that Charles was driving on Interstate 81 North, near milepost 139.2, when the vehicle entered the median and rolled over. Charged also with driving with a suspended or revoked license, Charles was held under $500,000 bail.
Misdemeanor charges included possession of a controlled substance and DUI of a controlled substance, and motor vehicle code violations of driving while operating privilege is suspended or revoked, reckless driving and careless driving.
He was arraigned before on-call District Judge David Plachko, of Port Carbon, and committed to the county prison in Pottsville after failing to post $500,000 cash bail.
A passenger, James R. Muse, 48, of Glen Allen, Virginia, was injured and taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital. He died of his injuries on Nov. 29.
Leon John Charles, (DOB 07/23/1970) also has a residence at 512 Roosevelt Street, Kingston, Pa. according to Maryland court records when he was charged on May 3, 2019, in Prince Georges County Circuit Court with driving while suspended. The case was disposed of by Prince Georges County States Attorney Alisha Braveboy with a plea deal resulting in a verdict of Probation Before Judgement on Aug. 9, 2019.

Faulkner, Maryland – The Christmas Drinking, Drugging, Driving and Dying Season added the notch of another boozing driver taking a cruise on the wrong way of a divided highway on Saturday, December 7, 2019, at approximately 12:45 am reports the Maryland State Police La Plata Barrack Commander Lt. Thomas Quade.
Troopers from the Maryland State Police La Plata Barrack responded for a report of a motor vehicle collision involving two vehicles on northbound United States Route 301 in the area of Faulkner Road in Faulkner, Maryland. Due to the seriousness of the collision, a request was made for the Maryland State Police CRASH Team to assume the investigation.

Plata Barrack indicates a 1994 Jeep Wrangler operated by a 17-year-old male teen, of Lorton, VA and occupied by Shane Haley, 19, of Lorton, VA and Raymond Andrews, 18, of Front Royal, VA were traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of United States Route 301 in the area of Faulkner Road.
At the same time, a 2007 Hyundai Elantra operated by Zenobia Sharp, of Richmond, VA., was traveling northbound U.S. Route 301 at Faulkner Road. The Jeep collided off-set head-on with the Hyundai in lane number one. As a result of the collision, the 17 teen driver was pronounced deceased on the scene.
Police say that Alcohol and driver
error are believed to be factors in the collision.

Indiana State Police report that State Troopers encountered another wrong-way driver on I-65, fortunately, this time there wasn’t a head-on crash. On December 26, 2019, at approximately 12:10 AM, Indiana State Trooper William Carlson was dispatched to a wrong-way vehicle on I-65 northbound near the 240 exits (Lowell exit).
The Lowell Regional Dispatch Center was receiving multiple 911 calls of the vehicle. After traveling the wrong-way for approximately 9 miles, Trp. Carlson located the vehicle and was able to make a traffic stop on it near the 232 mile-marker in Newton County. The vehicle, a 2008 Chevrolet Impala, was being driven by Marcus Cooper-Longoria (28yrs old) who resides in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The driver indicated that he had observed oncoming traffic but didn’t think anything of it because he was tired. During the traffic stop investigation, Trooper Carlson was able to recognize indicators of impairment. Trp. Carlson is a certified Drug Recognition Evaluator (DRE). A “DRE” is a law enforcement officer trained to recognize impairment in drivers under the influence of drugs, other than, or in addition to alcohol. The DRE evaluation on Cooper-Longoria indicated/showed impairment.
The left lane of I-65 northbound was closed for approximately 1 hour due to the investigation and for vehicle removal by Village Motors Towing. Cooper-Longoria was incarcerated at the Newton County Jail for the following charges:

State Trooper and Lake County Sheriff involved in early morning water rescue
Gary-On November 26th, 2017 at approximately 3:50 a.m, a hit and run crash occurred on I-80 in Gary, IN. Preliminary investigation by Trooper William Carlson revealed that Denise Towner, 42, of Gary, IN, was driving a red 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier eastbound on I-80 near the 8.6-mile marker in the right lane. This is approximately .3 miles west of the Grant Street exit. The red cavalier was rear-ended by another vehicle that fled the scene. The impact caused the red cavalier to spin out, and run off the roadway into the ditch area. The red cavalier then rolled several times, before coming to a rest upside down in waist-deep water. Trooper Carlson and Lake County Deputy Ray Borchert responded to the crash scene. Upon their arrival, both officers immediately removed their duty belts and entered the water to check on the well-being of Mrs. Towner and to attempt to remove her from the vehicle. It was determined by the officers that it was unsafe to attempt to roll the vehicle back to upright or break any windows in the vehicle as it could compromise the air pocket that Mrs. Towner was using to breathe. Gary Fire department personnel then entered the water with the Jaws of Life and were able to safely remove Mrs. Towner from the vehicle. Mrs. Towner was then immediately transported to Northlake Hospital in Gary where she was treated for injuries from the crash. The collective effort between agencies led to an efficient and successful rescue of Mrs. Towner.

CALIFORNIA: Jacques Clarke charged with DUI murder of Rosie Figueroa in rear-end DUI crash
FROM THE CALIFORNIAN: A Carmel teenager is in custody after authorities say he killed a Salinas woman while driving under the influence.
Jacques Clarke, 18, pleaded not guilty Monday to DUI and vehicular manslaughter charges, in a crash on Davis Road that killed Rosie Figueroa, 38, authorities say.
Clarke was driving his 2015 Mazda 6 at about 11:30 p.m. Friday on Davis Road when he rear-ended a 2012 Toyota Camry driven by Figueroa, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Officers said he was driving fast when he hit the Camry, which spun out of control, overturned and hit a large tree before landing on its roof. MORE
A family’s desperate plea this holiday is warning people not to drink and drive. This coming after a teenager under the influence is accused of killing 38-year-old Rosie Figueroa in a car crash in Salinas, Friday night.
For the family, this is not the holiday tradition they are used to. With the support of family and friends, they’re trying to get through this tough time by living through the memories of Rosie Figueroa.
“Rosie, wow. The first thing that comes to mind is, she’s a fireball,. Full of spirit, life, passion, courage,” said Rosie’s brother, Socrates Figueroa, brother of Rosie.
“A great person, her daughter was a great person,” said Rosie’s uncle Luis Duran.
Rosie’s mother Sylvia Nazario said her daughter, “taught me things about myself, taught me things about life … taught me things how to raise her daughter.”
Rosie was driving northbound on Davis Road. The California Highway Patrol said 18-year-old Jacques Clarke was driving under the influence of alcohol and rear-ended Figueroa’s car.
Her Goddaughters Alexis and Alyssa Nazario said Rosie was, “loud, everyone knew who she was. Very tough.” MORE
Prosecutors are charging the accused teenage driver, Jacques Clarke, with a DUI and vehicular manslaughter. His bail is set at $380,000. He is due back in court on January 10.
Two Teens Die in Single-Vehicle Crash Acadia Parish – The Louisiana State Police report that shortly before 8:00 p.m. on December 29, 2019, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop I began investigating a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 10 near LA Hwy 91 in Acadia Parish. The crash took the life of 19-year-old Kylan Mier and 19-year-old Dante Lacomb, both of Morse.
The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Mier was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Camaro. While traveling westbound, he failed to properly negotiate the off-ramp curve at Exit 76. His vehicle ran off the roadway and began to overturn, then struck the LA 91 bridge embankment before coming to rest.
Mier was restrained at the time of the crash. However, Lacomb, who was the front-seat passenger, was not restrained. Both men were pronounced deceased at the scene by the Acadia Parish Coroner’s Office. Impairment is unknown but standard toxicology samples were obtained for analysis. Speed is believed to be the major factor in the crash. This crash remains under investigation.
According to NHSTA, for more than two decades, speeding has been involved in approximately one-third of all motor vehicle fatalities. In 2016, speeding was a contributing factor in 27% of all fatal crashes nationwide. Speeding is defined as speed too fast for conditions or in excess of the posted speed limit.

Fatal Crash Investigation results in Felony DUI Charges for Shawn Brautigam
After a three-week investigation, the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office has charged Shawn Brautigam with 3 felony counts of Aggravated DUI. The charges stem from a November 24, 2019 crash which resulted in the death of 34-year-old Woodstock male and serious injury to a 44-year-old Wheaton female.
On November 24, 2019, at 2:03 a.m., the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, Woodstock Police, Woodstock Fire/Rescue District, and Wonder Lake Fire/Rescue responded to a single-vehicle crash involving a 2019 Toyota Camry that had overturned after crashing into a utility pole and tree on Charles Road west of Queen Anne Road.
Investigations were conducted in cooperation with the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Investigation Unit, Winnebago County Coroner’s Office, and McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Preliminary investigation revealed Brautigam’s blood alcohol content was above the legal limit at the time of the collision and that Brautigam’s Illinois license had been suspended for a previous DUI offense. It is also believed that speed may have been a contributing cause to the crash.
Brautigam is currently detained within the DuPage County Jail (IL) on charges unrelated to this incident.
The investigation continues by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Investigation Unit.

SOUTH RIDING, VA. – The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office reports that it is investigating a two-vehicle crash that took the life of a South Riding woman on Christmas Day.
The crash occurred around 8:20 a.m. on Dec. 25, 2019, in the area of John Mosby Highway (Route 50) near South Riding Boulevard. A sedan with five occupants was stopped at a red light when it was struck from behind by a pickup truck. Rashida Begum, 79, of South Riding, a passenger in the sedan, lost her life on scene.
Two occupants inside the sedan were taken to the hospital
with life-threatening injuries. Two other occupants were taken to the hospital
with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the pickup truck, Martin Velazquez Chavez, 56, of Sterling was charged with Involuntary Manslaughter and Driving While Intoxicated. He is being held at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center on no bond. Virginia court records reveal that this is the first time Chavez has been caught for DWI.
A passenger in the pickup truck was transported to the
hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash remains under investigation by the Loudoun County

This morning I found out that I lost my brother. He was killed in a car accident last night around 11 pm. He was hit by a DUI driver. Ryan and Carlos were in a serious car crash they were hit by a DUI driver, Ryan was killed and Carlos was critically injured and is now trying to recover without his best friend. According to a police report, it happened Saturday, Dec. 28, just after 6 p.m., on South Seventh Street near Jordan Avenue.
Joseph-Luckett-Lousville-Metro-DUI-Fatal
Police say a vehicle was traveling the wrong way in the southbound lane, when it crashed into another vehicle driven by 43-year-old Joseph Luckett.
First responders performed CPR on the driver of the first vehicle, but the driver died at the scene.
Luckett was extracted from his vehicle and taken to University Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Police say they smelled alcohol when Luckett was put in the ambulance, and University Hospital employees also smelled alcohol.
Luckett is charged with murder, operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure of an owner of a motor vehicle to maintain required insurance. SEE MORE AND VIDEO OF WDRB
