2013-12-07 — State police now accuse a Millcreek Township man of driving drunk in an October traffic accident in Fairview Township that killed a Fairview man.
Police on Thursday amended the criminal complaint filed against Ronald D. Hall Jr. to add 10 new charges against him in the Oct. 17 crash. They include felony counts of homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence; aggravated assault by vehicle while DUI and homicide by vehicle; and misdemeanor counts of DUI, involuntary manslaughter and recklessly endangering another person.
Hall was initially charged on Oct. 18 with felony accidents involving death or personal injury and two summary traffic violations.
Hall was expected to face all 13 charges at his scheduled preliminary hearing before McKean District Judge Denise Stuck-Lewis on Friday morning, but the hearing was postponed at the request of Hall’s lawyer, court officials said. A new hearing date was not set on Friday.
Police charge that Hall drove a gray 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee after “imbibing a sufficient amount of alcohol” to render him incapable of safely driving the vehicle, according to the complaint.
The Jeep was traveling west on Tow Road when it went partially off the north side of the road, slid across Eaton Road and into a wooded area, where the passenger side struck a tree, state police Trooper Jeffrey Vincent wrote in the affidavit of probable cause.
The passenger doors were ripped off the Jeep and a passenger, Aaron P. Schaefer, 42, was ejected, police said. Schaefer was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said Hall fled the accident scene but was later identified through paperwork inside the Jeep. Troopers found Hall after first going to his residence, where family contacted him by phone, according ….MORE
