2014-02-03 — A woman was killed in a head-on DUI crash in Placer County Saturday morning.
The 58-year-old woman was driving eastbound on Foresthill Road, near Upper Lake Clementine Road, in her Chevy Malibu. A Dodge pick-up truck, traveling westbound drifted into her lane and crashed into her car around 7:15 a.m., California Patrol Highway Officer David Martinez said. She died at the scene. CHP did not release her name.
The woman’s 10-year-old granddaughter was sitting in the backseat when their car was hit. She suffered major injuries in the crash and had to be air lifted to UC Davis Medical Center for treatment, Martinez said. She condition and her name were not released.
Martinez said 35-year-old Eugene Mitchell was arrested for felony DUI and vehicular manslaughter. He was the driver of the Dodge pick-up truck that crashed into the 58-year-old woman’s car.
Martinez said Mitchell suffered major injuries and had to be taken to Sutter Roseville Medical Center for treatment. When he is released from the hospital, he will be booked into Placer County Jail, Martinez said.
The scene of the crash was closed for 1 hour and 45 minutes as it was investigated.
